FSU football is projected by many to win the ACC this season and make it back to the College Football Playoff – but can they do it without a loss?

In the 70 season history of FSU football, there have been just six times where the Seminoles have gone through the entire regular season (and the conference championship game starting with the 2005 season) without losing a game. Two of those have come in the last four years as the Noles finished both 2013 and 2014 without a blemish entering the bowl season.

As the 2017 season is approaching fast, the expectations are high for the Seminoles when it comes to how far they will go this season. Florida State was picked to win the ACC by a vast majority of the media who covered the conference’s media days earlier this month – and almost every publication has them winning the conference and making it back to the playoff system.

Can they do it without losing a game? Yes.

I know it might be a little crazy for some to think that a FSU football team who has to face Alabama, Miami, Louisville, Clemson, Florida and others can make it through Charlotte during the first week of December without suffering a defeat. On paper, the Seminoles should lose at least one of those games – heck, they might even be able to lose two and get into the playoff if things play out.

Still, the Seminoles have a legit chance to finish the regular season and win the ACC Championship without losing a single game.

If the Noles can get past Alabama in the opener, their next three most difficult games – Miami, N.C. State and Louisville – will all be in Tallahassee, where the Seminoles have lost just twice in the last four seasons. After that, you have a  Clemson team that will be a challenge, but has taken a step back in talent with the loss of their major weapons from last year’s title team.

It might be a stretch, but FSU football could enter the finale with the Gators unbeaten. If that is the case, you have to look at what this annual rivalry has been of late – dominance by the Seminole in part due to the fact that Florida has had no offense to speak of. Tell me what the Gators have done to remedy that for 2017? I’ll wait.

After that would be the ACC Championship, which experts think will be a rematch with the Hurricanes. If it isn’t Miami, it will be a team such as Virginia Tech, North Carolina or someone else for the Coastal Division that doesn’t instill a lot of fear at this point.

I’m not writing this to sound cocky or guarantee that the Seminoles will be 13-0 entering the bowl season for the third time in the last five seasons. Still, to say that FSU football doesn’t have a chance to do so would be insane.
