FSU football will return one of the most talented rosters in the nation when they take the first against Alabama in the 2017 opener.

FSU football lost a bit of firepower to the NFL Draft with the absences All-Americans Dalvin Cook and DeMarcus Walker.

However, The ‘Noles have plenty of players that standout on the roster, and are one of the few teams to have a legitimate shot at winning the 2017 national championship.

Athlonsports.com released their 2017 preseason All-American team that featured three FSU players:

  • Derwin James (S) 1st team
  • Tarvarus McFadden (CB) 1st team
  • Derrick Nnadi (DT) 3rd team

As long as all three of those players stay healthy they are virtually locks to be named All-Americans in my opinion. James and McFadden will likely be first round picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, and Nnadi will likely hear his name called on the second day of the draft.

Other All-American candidates

There are other FSU football players that have the potential to become All-Americans in 2017. Here’s a list of those players:

  • Josh Sweat
  • Brian Burns
  • Ricky Aguayo

Josh Sweat will be in his third year at FSU and could be the healthiest he’s ever been since suffering a terrible knee injury in high school. He came on strong late in the season.

He finished with 41 tackles, 11.5 for loss and seven sacks in 2016 in 12 games.

Brian Burns was named to the Freshman All-American team last season after totaling 9.5 sacks which was good for second on the team. He’ll look to continue capitalizing on pass rush situations while continuing to add size to play better against the run.

Ricky Aguayo was named to the ESPN Freshman All-American first team. He was 19 of 26 on field goal attempts with a number of the misses coming at home. A stronger sophomore effort could see him rewarded for his efforts.

Final Thoughts

Other players that might have a shot at being named All-American too. Deondre Francois could have a monster year. Matthew Thomas, Nyqwan Murray, Keith Gavin or Auden Tate could have a break out year.
