FSU football is in the midst of a dog fight for the commitment of five-star QB Justin Fields. So why is Jimbo Fisher offering more QB’s?

FSU football recruiting is still looking for a quality 2018 QB commit for this cycle. They have their eye on several and few of them came to camp this week and threw for Jimbo Fisher which is always which he prefers.

Five-star Justin Fields, three-star Jace Ruder and three-star Will Levis all have received an offer according to 247Sports.

The number one target for FSU is Justin Fields as the ‘Noles are competing against Florida, Georgia, Auburn, North Carolina and Penn State.

If you believe Florida fans, they’ve gone all-in on Fields so much they are not actively pursuing other perceived targets.

FSU football is certainly pursuing Fields and have presumably gone all-in as well, but Jimbo Fisher isn’t putting all of his eggs in that basket.

Justin Fields is planning to commit before his senior season which is a couple of months away. If FSU lands him, they have their man. If not, they’re in on a quality recruit like Jace Ruder.

The other thing playing in FSU’s favor is Ruder is considering North Carolina as well, but they got a commit from four-star Tyler Shough this week who FSU also offered.

Why’s Jimbo Offering More 2018 QB’s?

The way Florida and FSU are recruiting Justin Fields tells me the following:

  • Florida believes they absolutely have to have Fields to turn the corner since they haven’t had a quarterback since Tim Tebow.
  • FSU believes they can be elite with Justin Fields or Jace Ruder or any other quarterback Jimbo Fisher offers.

FSU signed two quarterbacks in the 2017 class with one being an early enrollee in four-star Bailey Hockman. Three-star James Blackman was the other signee who’s more raw, but likely has a higher ceiling and will probably redshirt this year.

That’s a great position to be in with Deondre Francois being a redshirt sophomore this year. Jimbo Fisher is a quarterback guru for a reason, and it’s why Justin Fields is heavily considering FSU at the moment.
