Two of FSU’s biggest football rivals, Miami and Clemson, were recently ranked as having some of the most delusional fans entering the 2017 season.

Entering the 2017 season, it’s not a surprise that FSU will be facing one of the toughest schedules in college football – a 12 game regular season slate that includes traditional rivalry game against Miami and Florida as well as a conference showdown with defending national champs Clemson…oh year, and the team they beat in the title game, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Needless to say, the Seminoles know they will be facing tough teams – all of which have fan bases that believe they will be handing Florida State a loss this season. For Miami, that would be the first time this decade should that upset take place…which is odd because their fan base tends to talk like the Hurricanes are still a revelant team and this is the 1980’s all over again.

As for the men from the Palmetto State, winning last year’s crown has given Clemson fans the sense that they are one of the best teams in college football of late – despite the fact they aren’t even a decade removed from having a losing season and went two decades without even sniffing a ACC title before their recent run of luck.

The Spun, a website covering all sports, recently listed the top 10 most delusional fan bases in college football entering the 2017 season – and in a shocker, both the ‘Canes and Tigers found their way on that list:

"7. Clemson – There’s no one. And we’re sorry to say this to Clemson fans, but there’s no way that the Tigers put together the same success this season, especially when a starting quarterback hasn’t even been named yet.4. Miami – Let’s get one thing clear, Miami is not going to win the ACC this year. Without Deshaun Watson, many Hurricanes fans believe this finally may be the year that the team can get over the hump and win the conference. First things first, Miami fans, you have to win your own division.Even if Clemson isn’t able to stay elite, there is another program that will. Florida State, the league favorite, has more talent and experience than the Hurricanes."

Another ACC school, Louisville, ended up third on the list with the website saying the school will be in trouble as defenses have learned how to play against Lamar Jackson. The Cardinals finished ranked below two Big 12 schools, Oklahoma State and Texas.

At times, FSU fans – including this guy writing – have been guilty for being a little delusional that things are better off than they really are…just look at the last half of the previous decade as an example. But this season, FSU football is as good as fans think they are and should be able to back it up.

I’m willing to give Clemson a slight break since they are still hungover from last year’s title (some in the Seminoles camp were the same in 2014) – but Miami has no excuse since they haven’t done anything since joining the ACC (which was dubbed by them as the All Canes Conference) and just won their first bowl game in a decade last season.

Small steps, orange and green.
