FSU football will be back in the national spotlight as one member of the College GameDay staff confirmed the show is heading to the opener with Alabama.

By now, the secret is out that FSU football will be playing in a big time opening game this season when the face the Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta on September 2nd. Aside from the dozens of storylines being written about the game, the main one is that this could be the first time EVER that the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams face each other to open the season.

Even with some other decent games on the slate – Florida vs. Michigan in Arlington, West Virginia vs. Virginia Tech in the nation’s capital and UCLA hosting Texas A&M among them – there is no doubt that the eyes of the college football world are going to be on the ‘Noles and the Tide.

As it turns out, those same eyes will be watching the action involving FSU football three hours earlier now. While it had been talked about for a while, one co-host of ESPN’s College GameDay – former FSU player Lee Corso – spilled the beans that the traveling roadshow is heading to Atlanta for the opener.

AL.com reported the news after Corso said so to a Mobile area radio station on Friday:

"“It’s going to be that one because it is two excellent football teams. We’re going to be starting the season going to a tremendous football game.”"

I don’t even think tremendous does this game justice. It’s going to be two teams who could easily – even with a  loss in this one – meet again in the College Football Playoff, possibly in the national championship game being played January 8th…in Atlanta!

The decision also means you can almost put it in permanent marker that the game will be televised nationally at 8 p.m. on ABC as the game of the week. That decision will be announced later in the summer, but having GameDay in the house is almost an assurance that the Seminoles will play on national television to open the year for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
