FSU football has had a number of players taken in the NFL Draft over the years. How many will be drafted in 2017?

FSU football had two players drafted last year, Jalen Ramsey who was drafted No. 5 overall and Roberto Aguayo at No. 59.

It was the least amount of FSU players drafted in the Jimbo Fisher era. The 2009 NFL Draft was the last time only one player was selected in the draft.

That was when the Carolina Panthers moved up several spots to select defensive end Everette Brown with the No. 43 pick in the second round.

The ‘Noles have several players who are draft eligible. Let’s take a look at how many will likely hear their name called this week during the draft.

  • Dalvin Cook-projected first round
  • DeMarcus Walker-projected 2nd-3rd round
  • Marquez White-projected round 7 or undrafted
  • Travis Rudolph-projected 5th-6th round
  • Freddie Stevenson-projected round 7 or undrafted
  • Kermit Whitfield-projected round 7 or undrafted
  • Jesus “Bobo” Wilson-projected round 7 or undrafted
  • Sean Maguire-projected undrafted

Thoughts

So clearly FSU football should have more players selected in this years drafted compared to last season.

Cook and Walker are locks to be selected and most mock drafts have Travis Rudolph getting selected. We hope that’s the case with him losing his father just a few days ago.

A number of the players didn’t do themselves any favors with their performances at the NFL Combine.

Marquez White and Travis Rudolph ran disappointing 40 yard dash times. Plus, neither had stellar junior season at FSU in 2016.

Freddie Stevenson is an excellent player, but most NFL teams don’t use a fullback in their offense. However, he’s the type of player that would be signed as an undrafted free agent.

Whitfield and Wilson are both very small wide receivers that could potentially be taken in the final round or signed as undrafted free agent. Whitfield ran in the 4.4’s but most people expected him to be much faster.

Wilson didn’t run a blazing 40 yard dash which hurt his stock as a smaller receiver. Sean Maguire likely doesn’t have enough game film coupled with limited talent to be drafted. It’s possible a team could sign him as an undrafted free agent.

We expect three former ‘Noles have their name called later this week with the possibility of one or two sliding into the final round.
