FSU Football: Latest NFL.com Mock Draft Has Five Noles Going Pro
By Jason Parker
FSU football knows several former players will hear their names called during the 2017 NFL Draft, while one expert thinks that number will reach five.
Last April, FSU football only got to hear the name of a former star called twice in the NFL Draft (of course, they made the most of it with Jalen Ramsey being picked fifth overall and Roberto Aguayo going in the second round). In 2017, there is no doubt that the Seminoles will be able to celebrate more than that when this year’s draft takes place in Philadelphia.
After just two players were picked last year – the lowest since 2009 and just the third time since 1987 that Florida State had less than three players picked in a year – the Seminoles could have that many taken in the first two rounds according to many mock drafts. The latest one on NFL.com from expert Char Reuter has a total of five former ‘Noles going to the next level:
"1st Round (No. 27) – Kansas City Chiefs / RB Dalvin CookThe Chiefs might believe Cook is worth a late-first-round pick because of his quickness and vision, even with the off-field issues, shoulder injuries, and fumbling he displayed at FSU.2nd Round (No. 61) – Green Bay Packers / DE DeMarcus Walker4th Round (No. 111) – Chicago Bears / OT Roderick Johnson6th Round (No. 186) – Baltimore Ravens / FB Freddie Stevenson6th Round (No. 201) – Washington Redskins / CB Marquez White"
It’s stil a wonder how Cook has fallen so far down into the later parts of the first round on so many different mock drafts, but it will only make whatever team takes him look that much smarter for getting the biggest gem in this year’s draft.
This past Wednesday, our own Ty Ragans unveiled his third mock draft for 2017, having Cook joining former FSU football star Jameis Winston as a member of the Tampa Bay Bucs with the 19th overall pick. He also sent Walker to Washington in the second round, Johnson to the New England Patriots in the third, White to the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round and still had Stevenson heading to Baltimore, just one round later.
