FSU football had a weak home game schedule in 2016 and 2017 is shaping up to be good. However, the 2018 home game slate could be the best since 2014.

FSU football finalized their 2018 non-conference schedule earlier this week with the addition of home games with Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois.

The FSU slate of home games that year could be the best since 2014. The ‘Noles hosted home games against Clemson, Notre Dame and Florida in 2014 while hosting seven home games altogether.

Of course, the ‘Noles were living on the edge and narrowly escaped with instant classic wins in games against Clemson and Notre Dame that year.

In the 2018, the ‘Noles will face the following at home:

  • Virginia Tech (opener likely at night)
  • Samford
  • Northern Illinois
  • Clemson
  • Florida

They’ll also host ACC Atlantic division foes Wake Forest and Boston College. This will be the first home opener against a big time opponent since 2009 when FSU opened the season against Miami.

Ironically, that’s the last time the Canes beat FSU (and FSU should have won that game).

Thoughts

The three games with Virginia Tech, Clemson and Florida make the home slate great. The opener against Virginia Tech has taken place at a neutral site the past few years, so it’s great to finally treat the home crowd to a big time game to open the season.

Did I mention that game will likely take place at night? Doak will be electric, and it’s an opponent FSU football hasn’t faced since 2012.

If both teams are ranked, the Clemson game could be at night as well as it has been a prime time game a number of times in recent years.

The opportunity to beat the Gators at home is always fun too as the ‘Noles have done in recent years.
