FSU Football: Virginia Tech Fans React About Opening Against ‘Noles In 2018
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has a string of tough opening games the past few years. It looks like 2018 will be no different when Virginia Tech rolls to Tallahassee.
A report from Warchant indicates FSU football will open the 2018 season hosting the Virginia Tech Hokies. The ‘Noles last played Virginia Tech in 2012, a 28-22 win in Blacksburg on a Thursday night.
Jimbo Fisher is 1-1 against he Hokies, the loss coming in the 2010 ACC Championship game.
FSU is a perinnial power and Virginia Tech is looking to get back to those heights with head coach Justin Fuente taking over for Frank Beamer last season. The Hokies won the ACC Coastal, but lost to Clemson in the ACC Championship game.
Hokie fans seem to feel good about their chances of winning on the road courtesy of a trip to VT message board TheKeyPlay:
"Beating Clemson in 2017 and Florida State in 2018 sounds like a good recruiting pitch to me.I expect FSU to win the Atlantic, so we won’t have to wait until 2018.So they want a repeat of the last ACC game in 2017 to start the 2018 season?Sucks being on Labor Day, I would have considered making the trek, but a win in Tallahassee is a great way to start 2018. (Also, #GOACC, Florida State doesn’t return until 2023, which would be ELEVEN YEARS between hosting a conference opponent). That is one conference game that I wish would come up way more often. It’s almost easier for both of these teams to meet by winning their divisions.Could be a huge matchup with major implications. Both teams are trending towards being very strong in 2018 depending on who sticks around, but obviously it’s too early to speculate on that too much.Wow, Doak’s gonna be electric. Before the game, sure. After the game…not so much.Deandre Francois is about to kill us.If FSU doesn’t pass block better Francois will be dead by 2018. Tough SOB though. You ain’t lying. I don’t know how he even survived last season.I would love nothing more than seeing the ‘noles demolished in front of their very well-qualified students. If this were in Blacksburg, I’d be excited."
Thoughts
Jimbo Fisher has shown he’s willing to throw the dice against tough competition in recent openers. It’s a gift and a curse so to speak. It gives players something to shoot for in the drudges of summer, but an early loss can derail a lot of goals.
It’ll be great for FSU fans to get an opponent of this caliber at home as recent openers have taken place at neutral site locations or on the road.

As one of the Virginia Tech fans up above said, “Doak will be electric.”
