FSU football has one of the most talented defensive secondaries in the country. Sophomore Levonta Taylor talks spring practice progress and more.

Sophomore defensive back Levonta Taylor got a chance to speak with the media after practice earlier this week and dished on a number of items.

He said he’s been working at cornerback and the “Star” position, the same position Jalen Ramsey wrecked havoc against Miami in 2014.

Taylor said the biggest thing he wanted to improve on was finishing through the play against receivers. Essentially, he’d be in position to make a play but the receiver would still make the catch, and that’s something he wants to eliminate in his second season.

A lot of people don’t know Taylor dealt with an injury last season although he played in 12 games. He spoke on that and how the injury derailed most of his goals, including being a freshman All-American.

The entire interview can be seen below:

Thoughts

Taylor is putting himself in position to see a lot of playing time either at the field cornerback position or the Star position in the FSU football secondary. He’s extremely talented and ultra-competitive as he should be being he was the top recruit in the 2016 class.

He finished his freshman season with 16 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup. If he can stay healthy, he should blow by those numbers easily in his second season, in particular if he winds up at the Star position.

Taylor isn’t as big as Ramsey, but is similar to former Nole great Lamarcus Joyner who played the Star position prior. If he can play anywhere close to the level of those two, the FSU defense will be among the best in the country.
