FSU football will conclude spring drills Saturday with the annual Garnet vs. Gold game – here’s a look at some big questions heading into it.

After weeks of knocking helmets under an increasingly hotter environment in Tallahassee, FSU football will finish up their spring practice schedule this weekend with a scrimmage between the ‘Noles inside Doak Campbell Stadium. After over two hours of football, several big questions should be answered as the team closes up shop until the fall.

After finishing off a 2016 season that started disappointing with a five game winning streak – including another victory over Florida and an Orange Bowl win over Michigan – the Seminoles are already a favorite by some to win the ACC, make the College Football Playoff and make it to the national title game this coming January in Atlanta.

Before any of that can take place, FSU football still has plenty of questions left unanswered. From returning players to newcomers to positions that either shined last year or are in desperate need of help, here’s a look at one of the big questions the Seminoles will look to have answered by the end of Saturday’s showdown between the ‘Noles and…well, the ‘Noles.

No. 4 – After having a successful game last year in Orlando, will a projected drop in attendance this year be a bad look?

When FSU football moved last year’s game from Doak down to what is now called Camping World Stadium in Central Florida due to construction, there were many (including myself) who had doubts about such a move. 50,000+ people later, there is no doubt that moving the game closer to more alumni and fans in Central and South Florida was a solid move.

This year, the game returns to Tallahassee and back on campus – the way it still should be, no one is arguing that. However, there is almost no way that you will see the crowd that you saw in Orlando last year – especially considering the fact that the baseball team is out of town this weekend at N.C. State and the other big event, Springtime Tallahassee, was last weekend.

It’s going to be hard to get thousands of people to make the trip from Miami, Fort Myers, Tampa or Orlando to make the hours long trip to Tallahassee for a game that doesn’t actually count – especially since the game will now be televised nationwide by ESPN.

Nothing would make us happier than to see a packed Doak Campbell Stadium to show the world that FSU football fans are the best in the country – but it’s going to be hard to live up to what took place last year, giving the athletic department a chance to think about possibly moving the game once in a while in the future.
