FSU Football: Jimbo Says Team Making Progress In Different Areas
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football returned to the practice field Saturday and Jimbo Fisher addressed the media afterwards. Offensive line progressing?
FSU football returned to practice Saturday and the team continues to work a lot on situational football. Jimbo Fisher said they worked on third down, red zone and the two-minute drill.
Seems like the same old same old as both sides are making plays but one side isn’t standing out more than the other. Fisher says he feels the team continues to be about where he thought they’d be.
One of the main things Fisher touched on was the FSU football offensive line. Last season the offensive line caught flack for the amount of pressure they allowed on Deondre Francois.
Some of the blame was correctly placed on them, but the other part was on Francois holding the ball too long or others missing blocking assignments.
It seems like the offensive line is making progress despite a number of injuries along the line and question marks at left tackle. A number of talented red-shirt freshmen are getting valuable reps which could prove valuable for Francois and the young running backs corp.
Bailey Hockman Making Progress
One of the biggest questions going into the spring was how fast would true freshman Bailey Hockman pick up the offense. Fisher has been impressed. Fisher said, “Picking things up…throws the deep ball well, picking the offense up…I’m liking what I’m saying out of him.”
Fisher mentioned that JJ Cosentino played well in the scrimmage last week and is making progress. Will it be enough to hold off Bailey in the event Francois has to come out of a game?
