FSU Football: Jimbo Fisher Is Looking For Consistent Greatness
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football continues to put work in that will all come to fruition in the spring game next week. Coach Jimbo Fisher speaks with the media after practice.
There seems to be a common theme with Jimbo Fisher and this 2017 team. He knows they are one of the most talented teams in the country. However, it’s the little things that separate the most talented teams from being elite.
Fisher dished on a ton of stuff in the video below. I won’t recap it as you can watch it for yourself. However, I will speak on the point Fisher’s trying to get across with the media.
Consistent Greatness
Don’t be good a few plays per game. Players should strive to be great on every play in the game. That’s the message Jimbo Fisher is trying to instill in this talented team that was largely inconsistent much of the 2016 year and it cost them in three games.
Fisher said, “Can’t let good get in the way of great.”
FSU football has set the standard under Jimbo Fisher as one of two programs that have finished in the top 25 the last seven years consecutively. That other team is Alabama.
It’s doing the little things we discussed last year. Doing little things consistently great creates opportunities for success. If the offense moves the ball well on first and second down it increases the likelihood they’ll be able to convert on third down.
If a team gets into the red zone, it’s scoring touchdowns instead of settling for field goals.
On defense, if they win on first and second down it increases the percentages they’ll get off the field on third down.
Making smart plays and not beating yourself by turning the ball over. Fisher is already stressing the importance of leadership on this years team. He’s already looking to push the right buttons on the right players to form the identity of this team.

All of it boils down to consistent greatness on every play. The talent on this roster and a little bit of injury luck coupled with consistent greatness is enough to win a National Championship.
