The FSU women’s basketball team is one game away from the first Final Four appearance in program history, facing off with South Carolina in the Elite Eight.

For just the third time in their 47 season history, the women’s basketball program at FSU is one of the final eight teams left standing when it comes to the postseason. With a win Saturday over Oregon State, the Lady ‘Noles found themselves in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament – where they will face a familiar foe on the other side.

Head coach Sue Semrau’s team went on the road and got a big win this past weekend against the reigning regular season champs from the Pac-12 and now turn their attention toward a SEC foe who some think may be the closest competition to UConn for a national title. Let’s take a look back and give you a preview of what’s in store Monday night.

Last Game Recap

Through the first 20 minutes of action, it didn’t look good for the third seeded Lady Noles as they faced off against second seeded Oregon State. The Beavers jumped out to a huge lead after one quarter and held on to lead by five at the break.

The second half was all FSU as they outscored their opponents by 18 points in the final 20 minutes, coasting to a 66-53 win in front of a very pro Oregon State fan base in Stockton, CA. Leticia Romero led all FSU scorers with 18 points on the night as the Lady ‘Noles defense forced 23 turnovers while the team committed just nine all game.

Opponent Preview

Head coach Dawn Staley has the top seeded South Carolina Gamecocks ready for another trip to the Final Four. At 30-4 on the season, USC won the SEC regular season and tournament crown while making light work of their Sweet 16 foe, upset minded Quinnipiac, by 49 points this past weekend.

Kaela Davis was a monster this weekend, dropping 28 points to lead the Gamecocks to victory. It will be a chance for FSU to get some redemption against their former Metro Conference foes – it was South Carolina who ended the Lady Noles’ tournament run in 2015 in the Elite Eight round, holding on for a six point win.

If FSU wins…

The Lady ‘Noles would travel to Dallas, Texas for the first Final Four appearance in program history. Once there, they would face the Stanford Cardinal, who won a thrilling Elite Eight game against Notre Dame on Sunday – coming back form 16 points down to win 76-75.

All-time, the Cardinal and Lady ‘Noles have met four times – with three of those meetings coming in the NCAA Tournament. Stanford ended FSU’s season in 2006 and 2014 in the big dance, while Florida State sent their foes packing in 2007.
