No. 1 – Bacon Sizzling in Charlottesville (to start the 5-1 stretch over ranked teams)

Dec. 31 was the beginning of a gauntlet.

In what has gone done in folklore as one of the toughest stretches in school history, the Seminoles had to play six ranked teams in a row. Arguably the toughest, considering location and talent level, was the opener against the Cavaliers.

We all know how they like to play, packing the inside, slowing the game down as much as possible (it’s a retched kind of basketball to watch, I don’t care what Virginia fans say) and forcing teams to beat them from the outside.

Well, as it turns out, the Seminoles were up to the challenge. Specifically, Bacon was.

The super sophomore had his best game of the season that day, scoring 29 points on 18 shots. He converted on six of his nine attempts from three, including the most memorable shot of his career.

Smooth.

Ultimately, the Seminoles went 5-1 during the gauntlet. Wins against Virginia, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Louisville and Duke locked up a tournament berth for Florida State before February. It’ll be a stretch we all talk about years from now.

Thinking about it makes me remember this year fondly. If only it had ended differently.
