FSU basketball will be the second overall seed in the 2017 ACC Tournament – just the third time they have been that high since joining the conference.

For the 26th straight season, FSU basketball will follow up the regular season with a trip to the ACC Tournament – this year, being held for the first time in Brooklyn, NY at the Barclays Center. The Seminoles, thanks to a win over Miami yesterday and a Louisville victory over Notre Dame, clinched the second overall seed and a coveted double bye for the week.

By reaching that level, the ‘Noles have done something that only happened twice before. During the first two seasons the program was in the ACC, FSU basketball was able to reach that seed – making it to the semifinals in 1992 while being upset in their first game of the 1993 tournament. Since then, the ‘Noles have struggled to get back to that high of a seed.

Thanks to holding the tiebreaker with Notre Dame and Louisville based on winning percentage among the three teams against each other (FSU going 2-1, ND going 2-2 and Louisville going 1-2), Florida State will tip off for the first time Thursday at 7 PM.

Here’s a look at the first games scheduled for each of the 15 teams in the conference:

"TuesdayNo. 13 N.C. State vs. No. 12 Clemson – 12 PMNo. 15 Boston College vs. No. 10 Wake Forest – 2 PMNo. 14 Pittsburgh vs. No. 11 Georgia Tech – 7 PMWednesdayNo. 9 Miami vs. No. 8 Syracuse – 12 PMN.C. State/Clemson/Duke vs. No. 4 Louisville – 2 PMBoston College/Wake Forest/Virginia Tech vs. No. 2 Florida State – 7 PMPittsburgh/Georgia Tech/Virginia vs. No. 3 Notre Dame – 9 PM"

To be honest about it, the Seminoles got pretty darn lucky with their seeding for this year’s tournament. FSU basketball will be facing one of three possible opponents in either the Eagles, Demon Deacons or Hokies – teams the ‘Noles beat by an average of 21 points this season in the three combined meetings.

On the other hand, it will be interesting if they can win their opener since, in Friday’s semifinals, the Seminoles could face a conference opponent who beat them easily this season – as the Seminoles lost games against the Panthers, Yellow Jackets and Fighting Irish by an average of 16 points.
