FSU Football: Breaking Down Offensive Line Play In 7 Games
By Kelvin Hunt
Conclusion
Look. There’s no way to sugarcoat this as the FSU offensive line has not played well or even close to well when it comes to overall play.
They have excelled at short yardage blocking, and that’s greatly improved compared to the previous couple of seasons.
The fact that everything else is trending downward is a concern. It’s true they had a couple of injuries early on that was impactful.
Kareem Are missed some time, Rick Leonard was starting at right tackle and he was playing as a defensive end last season at this time. He has been replaced by Brock Ruble who has battled tons of injuries and has little experience himself.
I do think some of it is play-calling on Jimbo Fisher’s behalf. Some of the blocks he’s asking these offensive linemen to make are a bit much in my opinion. Also, the plays seem to be a bit predictable times.
The other factor is Deondre Francois making the correct checks and protection calls at the line of scrimmage as a redshirt freshman.
However, Fisher hasn’t mentioned Francois missing many checks or protection calls.
