FSU Football: Did Jimbo Fisher Quell LSU Rumors During Teleconference?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football fans will probably have to deal with Jimbo Fisher going to LSU rumors the rest of the season. Did he quell them on Wednesday’s teleconference?

FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher took part in the weekly ACC Teleconference on Wednesday. He answered a variety of questions regarding FSU.
Fisher talked how about the team needs to continue to get better in all three phases of the game (offense, defense, special teams).
He was also asked about his future with the rumors of him being interested in the LSU job swirling at an all time rate. The exchange is below courtesy of theACC.com:
Q. With all that outside talk about your future and whatnot, just what you can say about your care for the University and this football team with the Seminoles.
JIMBO FISHER: I love this University. I plan or being here for a long time. I love Florida State, and that’s all I’m saying. That’s what I talk. I talk about myself and Florida State. Anything else is clutter and does not concern me, is not involving me.
Fisher had previously taken the stance that he wasn’t going to answer any questions regarding LSU. Granted, LSU isn’t mentioned anywhere in the question, but it was a veiled attempt to get a response from Fisher.
It was successful.
Fisher’s answer is promising, but he doesn’t come outright and state that he’s not interested in the LSU job either.
He’s a smart guy with a smart agent I’m sure. Even if Jimbo had no desire whatsoever to coach at LSU, it would be smart to be coy in this situation. He’s not going to leave FSU in the middle of the season and there’s a ton of football left to be played.
Giving a coy statement does a number of things:
- It doesn’t make Fisher seem like a liar if he did end up going to LSU
- It helps clear potential distractions with this FSU football team and potential recruits. If you saw “A Season With Florida State Football” on Tuesday night, you can tell Fisher is vested in this team and passion is apparent.
- It puts a bit of pressure on the FSU administration to ensure that Fisher is happy.
Thoughts
Fisher signed a contract extension in January 2015 which made him one of the highest paid coaches in college football.
The contract ends in 2022.
Fisher is coming off a 10-3 record in 2015 and a bowl loss against Houston. Does FSU AD Stan Wilcox like Jimbo Fisher enough to create a new contract if Fisher shows his hand with interest in the LSU job?
Interesting question right? What would you do if you were Wilcox?
So, it’s a long season FSU football fans. Fisher at least shows that he likes it at FSU and plans to be here a long time.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be here this time next year, but it’s not saying he won’t either.
