FSU Recruiting: Where The 2017 Class Stands Now
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU Recruiting has found the momentum it needed with the #TRIBE17 class. What does it mean for the future?
As we’ve documented earlier this week, FSU recruiting received major boosts with the class of 2017 within the past month with the addition of three quality players.
The class is No. 6 nationally and No. 1 in the ACC with the second highest points per player average in the nation just behind Ohio State.
There are four defensive players and three offensive players. There are five four-star recruits and two three-star recruits.
Here are the 10 members of the #TRIBE17 recruiting class according to 247Sports Composite Rankings:
- Stanford Samuels III, 5-star Cornerback
- Daniel Wright, 4-star Safety
- DJ Matthews, 4-star WR
- Cyrus Fagan, 4-star Safety
- Ja’len Parks, 4-star Defensive Tackle
- Zaquandre White, 4-star Running Back
- Bailey Hockman, 4-star QB
- Cory Durden, 4-star Defensive Tackle
- Bradley Jennings Jr., 3-star Linebacker
- Alexander Marshall, 3-star Tight End
FSU recruiting is expecting to sign in the ballpark of 18-22 players. As you can see it’s a nice mixture of defense and offense at the moment with the class being about 50 percent complete.
The ‘Noles will look to add another running back and wide receiver in this class. Khalan Laborn, four-star running back out of Virginia, and Jerry Jeudy, four-star wide receiver out of Florida are players to keep an eye on.
The ‘Noles are in the mix for five-star receivers Donovan Peoples-Jones, Trevon Grimes and Tee Higgins. I don’t feel great any FSU landing any of them honestly, but would gladly take them.
The ‘Noles already have a great duo of defensive tackles with the pair actively trying to recruit five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson from Texas. He seems to like FSU, but it will be an uphill battle getting a kid of that caliber out of Texas…crossing my fingers and toes.
FSU recruiting will take another linebacker probably and Walter Grant is a name to keep an eye on out of Georgia.
The ‘Noles are actively recruiting several offensive linemen and will look to add around three to this class after massive hauls in the past couple of recruiting cycles.
FSU has three stud defensive backs and will look to add two more.
This recruiting class is all about quality players since it will be relatively small. FSU is in the mix for a lot of elite players. If the ‘Noles have a great season on the field there’s a good chance a couple of them will land in Tallahassee.
