FSU Football: Dalvin Cook Third Best Running Back In Nation?
By Kelvin Hunt
Dalvin Cook
Cook played in 12 games last season and ran for 1,691 yards had 1,935 all-purpose yards with 19 rushing touchdowns and one TD reception. He played much of the season with an injured hamstring, including the Wake Forest game where he only had three carries.
Cook very well could have entered the NFL Draft after his sophomore season had he been eligible to do so. He won the Jim Brown Award for the best running back in the nation, averaging 7.4 yards per carry.
Let’s look at the same stat we used for McCaffrey and Fournette to see the type of opposition Cook ran against.
If we average this stat among the 11 teams that Cook faced, he went up against an average of the No. 49 rushing defenses. This doesn’t include the game against FCS school Chattanoga in which Cook ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
Cook ran against the No. 1, No. 4, No. 17, No. 23 and No. 29 teams in the nation regarding the Standard Downs Line Per Carry stat. He averaged 120.4 yards rushing in those four games.
