FSU Football: Jimbo Fisher Has Owned The NFL Draft
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football sent a record 29 players into the NFL Draft over the past three years. We take a look at how Jimbo Fisher has owned the draft since taking over for Bobby Bowden.
FSU football has been very good to the NFL Draft even before Jimbo Fisher became head coach in January 2010. However, the number of players that Jimbo Fisher has had drafted by NFL teams is off the charts.
We’re not even talking about all the players that have signed with teams and un-drafted free agents. If so, the percentages we’re going to get into would be even higher.
Jimbo Fisher has signed 99 players since 2010, including the 2013 class that is draft eligible this year if they didn’t redshirt like Jalen Ramsey.
Are you ready for this?
So 36 percent (36 of 99) of the players Fisher has signed since 2010 have heard their names called during the NFL Draft. That 36 number DOESN’T include Jalen Ramsey or Roberto Aguayo who are pretty much locks to hear their name called later this week. So, if you include their names, you guys can do the math on that.
If Terrance Smith, Nile Lawrence-Stample and/or Giorgio Newberry hear their name called later this week, that would put Fisher at 40 percent of the players in his first four recruiting classes at FSU football getting drafted.

Again, if you included the players that were not drafted but signed as un-drafted free agents that percentage would be even higher. It’s no accident that Fisher has gone 68-14 (82.9 percent) as FSU football head coach. That percentage gets incredibly higher if we go back to 2012 at 49-6 (89 percent). That’s important to note as the 2010 recruiting class was in shambles when Fisher was named head coach.
The ‘Noles were not even top 20 when Fisher was named head coach., but he was able to bring in the No. 7 class in the nation with a month left in the recruiting cycle that year. Of course that recruiting class laid a great foundation and was foreshadowing of things to come for the program.
