FSU Recruiting: Miami Fans React to Cade Weldon Committing To The ‘U’
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU recruiting has been killing it lately. However, Miami received a commitment from three-star FSU legacy quarterback Cade Weldon on Monday.
FSU recruiting had not offered the son of Casey Weldon who played at FSU in the late 1980’s and early-1990’s and was the Heisman runner-up to Desmond Howard in 1991.
Weldon’s quarterback coach while at FSU? Current Miami head coach Mark Richt. Cade Weldon is the second quarterback recruit in the 2017 class. N’Kosi Perry committed to the Canes over the weekend. A composite four-star recruit and the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class.
It’s hard to say just how good Weldon is at this point. He suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee in August 2015. He’s rated as the No. 30 pro-style rated quarterback in the 2017 class.
Anytime a team can get a legacy recruit from its rival to commit, it’s an opportunity to gloat a bit. However, Miami fans were pretty sensible about the whole ordeal. We would never subject you to going to a Canes forum, so we did you the favor of going there to collect the information and put it all in one spot. Check out some comments from the Canes Insight forum The comments began with news that Miami had offered Weldon a scholarship:
"nystateofmind -Wow.Canedog -Dis fo real? Staff be putting some miles on the Donk if so. Dam, this is nice.WestEndzone Wow. Nice film. Very good athlete. Great arm. Creative.valid -now this is a good pickup. Weldon looks like an Aaron Murray type. nice arm and seems to have good size.brock -love the qbs we have in our class. Hope Weldon doesn’t spurn us if an Fsu offer comes due to his ties"
Brock knows what is up….haha…
"Cribby -Richt coached his dad , and is very well respected . I’d be shocked it Casey allowed thatCribby I really like Cade , him and Perry is a filthy qb class . For the first time in ages we’ll have an actual competition at qb. With great depthProblem2 -Just stole an FSU legacy. This real life?TallyCane -Dads was a Nole QB Moms was a gator cheerleader kid is a cane QB… Only makes senseOh Snap -Jesus christ will we ever have to worry about QB ever again?djh -We are back to QB University."
When did Miami become QB U? Last I checked FSU has had three quarterbacks taken in the first round in the last five years.
"sfowler06 -Who the hell is cutting those damn onions again?! Good times are near, very fvcking near!"
FSU been cutting them since 2010…6-0 Yo!
"FINCHLION -Would rather have 7 OLinemen this class than 2 Qbs but we will see how numbers play out. Really shocked by this pick up, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I just think other recruits at different positions could potentially benefit us in terms of field production better than Weldon. Quality over quantity."
As a Cane fan…you’re not supposed to make intelligent statements.
"cflacane2 -High probability of kayaa leaving with the major factor being a weak qb class nxt year. We need 5 scholly qbs at all times."
So it’ll be “Bye Felisha?”
"Cribby Big boy programs should always have five scholly qb . In case of injuries , transfers and off field issues . You pretty much are always recruiting that position . That keeps you from having a Jacory then a Morris with no competition . It also protects you from having a Whipple at backup"
FIVE scholarship quarterbacks? Three or maybe four…yes….but FIVE?
"kev13108 -Kid is a stud and would love to keep him in the class. Call me crazy but I just may like him alittle more than perry. Based on little film so don’t everybody go all crazy nowpimpcane1 -In the coming years Miami is going to be stacking up FSU legacy Qb’s when Brad Johnsons son committs."
Say word homie?
"FINCHLION–You win games in the trenches, I do not trust our OLinemen just like I stated last year when people got upset and was talking like we had All Americans up front, like I said last year, Miami will not be a legitimate national power as in National title favorites until we get the big boys up front on the offense and defensive lines, I honestly think that’s the only thing holding us back, we now have legit coaching. You can build a good d and o as a whole around good line play."
There you go again being intelligent.
"gogeta4 -Great get…..Kid will come in to compete. Has known the qb coach and hc his whole life..this was a no brainer…i dont even think fsu can poach himFreddie Bear -Great choice Cade. Once Uncle Mark and cousin Jon offered it was an easy choice. Always nice when a Free Shoes U legacy picks the University of Miami Hurricanes.canesthing3 -As long as Perry is ok with this(I’m assuming he is, I’m sure Coach Richt told him he wanted to take 2 this cycle) then it’s an outstanding pickup. Live arm, good footwork, anticipation (you can tell his dad was a QB) and above average speed. He looks like he’s capable of extending plays and picking up first downs with his feet when needed. Plus this is from his sophomore film. He will have a huge senior season. You can’t get much better than a qb class of Perry and Weldon. Like others have said, we should be set at the position for years to come. Staff putting in work. SQUAD17 is off to a hell of a start.dycane -Got a better arm than his pops. The Franchise -He reminds me of a bigger stronger armed version of his dad. And his dad was an incredible QB at FSU. People kind of forget about him, but I think he finished second in the Heisman. If he has his dad’s gameness we got a real gem.Ericrdreier -Lol anyone know what the FSU boards look like right now?"
No, but we know Miami has looked like this for the past half decade:
Here are Weldon’s sophomore highlights:
Not bad. Remember, those are sophomore highlights. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs in his senior year. Also, it’s still early with recruiting services continually assessing recruits and updating their recruiting grades.

Will Cade Weldon earn a FSU recruiting offer in the future? If so, does he stick with his commitment to the Canes, or go with the head coach that has had three quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft?
