AT Louisville (Thursday Night) – October 30th

2013 Record: 12-1

Returning Starters: 7 on offense, 4 on defense

Bobby Petrino has returned to Louisville, and he’s bringing his high-octane offense back with him. Sure, the Cardinals have to replace Teddy Bridgewater and two other first-round draft picks, but the cupboard in Louisville isn’t exactly bare. The offense returns seven starters from last season, including All-AAC receiver DeVante Parker (855 yards, 12 TDs) — provided he is once again healthy by the end of October — and leading rusher Dominique Brown (825 yards and 8 TDs). The Cardinals also have added running back Michael Dyer, who was the MVP of the 2010 national title game for Auburn. Former 5-star WR James Quick should provide sophomore QB Will Gardner a solid number two option to throw to as well.

The defense is where it gets trickey for the Cardinals, as they only return four starters. They must find a way to replace first-round draft picks Calvin Pryor and Marcus Smith, two players who really impacted a defense that ranked #1 in total defense a year ago. Todd Grantham will be tasked with assuring the defense doesn’t see too much of a drop-off from a year ago. This game is going to be a challenge for the ‘Noles, who will going into a cold, hostile environment for this Thursday night match-up.
