Notre Dame – October 18th
2013 Record: 9-4
Returning Starters: 5 on offense, 4 on defense
Quarterback Everett Golson, who led the Irish to a national title game appearance in 2012 as a freshman, returns from a year-long suspension and has been handed the keys to the offense again. In 2012, Golson accounted for 2,703 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has the ability to make a difference with his legs. Running backs Cam McDaniel and Tarean Folston give the offense a nice one-two punch on the ground. The Irish will most likely feature more of a rushing attack this season due to a veteran offensive line and lack of experienced receivers (Lost top two receivers from a year ago and another’s questionable due to a recent academic scandal).
On defense, the Irish must find a way to replace star linemen Stephon Tuitt and Louis Nix, but the Irish do have players with experience that should fill in quite nicely. At linebacker, rising sophomore Jaylon Smith is looking to improve on his freshman season and help the defense find a way to replace their two leading tacklers. The Irish are loaded in the secondary and could really give Jameis Winston and the receivers a tough challenge. Notre Dame has some question marks, but this is probably the most talented team FSU will face.
