Jameis Winston has more hype surrounding him than the debut of a (surely poorly produced) NBC comedy. We have chronicled Winston’s rise to stardom well before any other outlets, but it was websites like Deadspin that helped make the cheese ball loving gunslinger a household name.
It is amazing, however, that most of his newly found fame is because of his ability to be charming and not as much to do with his ability to hurl the pigskin to wide receivers in an accurate fashion. It’s okay, though. There is nothing wrong with the spotlight now hanging over Winston’s head. Whether he handles the pressure is yet to be seen, but it does provide the Florida State fanbase with those unrealistic expectations that are usually reserved for Clemson fans.
The bonus winner in all of this is the cheese ball industry. Make sure to keep a keen eye on the commercials. It will be interesting to see if any of the snack companies try to capitalize on Winston’s momentum and use a generic version of him to shill out their product.
