FSU football needs to play football this fall several reasons. A report Monday says the ACC intends to allow games this fall.

FSU football is at a pivotal moment. If they are not allowed to play football this fall, the results will be catastrophic, and something FSU Athletic Director David Coburn doesn’t want to think about.

It’s a risk versus reward deal mixed with politics as usual.

If there is a college football season, at least the athletic department knows adjustments can be made to its budget, etc.

If there is no college football season? Well, a lot of changes will be coming across the board when it comes to FSU athletics and college sports in general.

The COVID-19 pandemic is going to be there with whatever decision is made, so it looks the ACC still plans to roll the dice in hoping the risk is worth the reward according to a report by CBS Sports:

"“We are trying to move forward [with playing] absolutely,” the ACC official said.”I don’t know if there is a drop dead time period [to decide],” the ACC official said. “We don’t start play until Sept. 12 as a league.”“[Canceling football in the next couple of days] could happen for some leagues,” the ACC official said. “I’m not sure it’s going to happen in the Atlantic Coast Conference.”"

It’s a strong stand by the ACC who has seemed to be more of a follower than a trendsetter until the last few years. They made power moves during crazy days of conference expansion to make sure the league stayed intact.

It looks like they are taking a stand, for now, to ensure the teams in the league can play football this fall. Of course, it helps when the SEC and Big-12 seemed to be standing arm-in-arm with them, while the Big 10 and Pac 12 were pushing for the cancellation of the season.

Of course, the league official was careful with his wording by using the words “trying to move forward” with playing. That leaves some wiggle room in case things go haywire, and they have to cancel the season.

However, for now, they are doing the smart thing and not being reactionary to other leagues.
