Two of the best FSU football players of all time were recently ranked among the 27 top players to ever play the sport heading into its 150th season.

Over the course of the 2019 college football season, every program from FSU football to those at the Division III level will be celebrating the 150th season of the game – a sport that makes Saturdays in the fall a wonderful event assuming your team is having a winning season (something the Seminoles better do in 2019).

Over the course of the season, every team and every outlet covering the sport is going to be coming up with lists and rankings of the top players, moments and games that have shaped the first century and a half – and the Seminoles are going to be present on all of them despite playing just half of those seasons.

The most recent comes from CBSSports.com, which came up with their all time All-American team recently and had two former FSU football stars on their list – making the Noles one of just five programs nationally (joining Nebraska, Alabama, USC and Michigan) to have multiple players on the first team list.

"Cornerbacks – Deion Sanders (Florida State, 1985-88) – Sanders backed up his mouth with his play becoming a two-time consensus All-American with 17 career interceptions and an average of 15 yards per punt return as a senior.Kicker – Sebastian Janikowski (Florida State, 1997-99) – The, um, colorful “Seabass” made almost 80 percent of career field goals at Florida State (76th all time). In his three college seasons, Janikowski led the FBS in field goals made (66 total)."

There is no doubt that when the history of FSU football is written, both Sanders and Janikowski are going to be among the first names mentioned – in part because of what they did in Tallahassee in addition to their long NFL careers that has one (Sanders) already in the Hall of Fame and the other could be on the way soon.

Both former Noles weren’t the only garnet and gold representatives on the list – as wide receivers Fred Biletnikoff and Peter Warrick joined linebacker Derrick Brooks and cornerback Terrell Buckley on the honorable mention team (with Sanders being named to that team as well as a punt returner.)

With that kind of legacy over the course of the history that FSU football has, it gets crazier and crazier to think that the Seminoles have just been playing football for over seven decades.
