Former FSU star Derwin James will be on the sidelines for several months, news that is devastating for his pro team after a monster rookie year.

In just one season in the NFL, Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James has gone to someone who had all the potential of someone that could have a monster career after being selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of FSU to someone that had people thinking a potential Hall of Fame career at this rate.

In just one season, James led the team in tackles with 105 while also adding three and a half sacks and was named both an All-Pro and was named to the Pro Bowl – while taking over football in the city of Los Angeles as the team continues to get adjusted to their new home.

Now, the former FSU sensation is going to have to wait a while before he can get his sophomore season going after suffering a stress fracture to his foot that could keep him out for a significant amount of time.

Numerous sources, including ESPN, say the team was looking into treatment options – including the possibility of surgery – after he suffered a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal of his right foot during Thursday’s practice the team held with the New Orleans Saints before their scheduled preseason game this weekend.

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn was not specific about when James suffered the injury, saying that something of this type was something that could have taken place over several days of practice and culminated in this one moment.

Saturday, news broke that James will have surgery on the foot and will be out for anywhere between three and four months.

The injury that James suffered is a huge deal not just for the former Seminole, but for the team as a whole as – following a season that sent them to the AFC Divisional Playoff round – the Chargers had plenty of people on their bandwagon that this might be the time where they would get to the second Super Bowl in franchise history.

Of course, the longer James is on the sideline those chances become less and less – and while it may end up just keeping him out a few weeks, the way people are talking makes it sounds like the former FSU standout could be sitting down for a while.
