FSU football was able to go back into South Florida and get a top recruit over his hometown school and the defending champs, a huge step for the Noles.

With the FSU football team still just over four months away from kicking off the 2019 season in Jacksonville against Boise State, the Seminoles have their work cut out for them trying to bounce back from the first losing season in over four decades – and much of that has to do with putting in the work on the #Tribe20 recruiting class.

This weekend, a ninth member of that group was added when four star defensive back Jalen Harrell said that he was going to be committed to the Seminoles in an article first reported by Noles247 and later reported by both the Tallahassee Democrat and the Miami Herald.

Later, Harrell confirmed the news on social media.

In the story, the 6’2, 180 lbs. secondary star from Miami Central High School said he enjoyed the family atmosphere and added that – while he said he would listen if other schools talked to him – said he intended not to take any more visits and would recruit other players in South Florida, particularly at the football factory he attends, to come to FSU football.

Now, obviously anything can change between now and when Harrell can first sign with the Seminoles this coming December, but it sounds like he is nole blooded and a firm commit.

Now, why is that a big deal? Well, aside from the fact that the Seminoles continue to get a strong defensive back room that can help turn things around, it’s just as big because of two main schools that were also recruiting him: his hometown Miami Hurricanes and the defending national champions, the Clemson Tigers.

In the last weekend of March, Harrell was on campus visiting the FSU football team and looked like a natural in garnet and gold.

The week before, he was in Coral Gables visiting the ‘Canes and the week after was in the Palmetto State to get a look at the Tigers – and still committed to the Seminoles despite 247 Sports saying he was a 100 percent lock to chose Miami.

Where this is huge for the Seminoles is that they went head to head with both a hated rival in their backyard as well as the defending champs who have both dominated the ACC and the whole sport over the last four seasons and came out with the recruit they wanted.

It also shows that FSU football is going to continue to show the importance of recruiting the best players and especially the Sunshine State’s top products – particularly in a South Florida area that they have been successful in for decades in taking top talent from, including getting five players from the tri-county area in this class alone.

It also moves the 2020 class for the Seminoles up to seventh nationally and closer to overtaking the ‘Canes, Tigers and rival Florida – showing that top recruits still know if they want to be a top school, FSU football is still a top option.
