FSU football is through two weeks of spring ball and its first scrimmage. Willie Taggart seems happy with the progress of his team.

FSU football has been through a number of practices and the vibe around the program seems to be a bit different than this time last year.

It seems apparent Coach Taggart has a better feel for where his program is at this point. He knows what to expect from certain players and there are not as many as unknowns compared to last year.

I’ve noticed some nice improvements with certain players on the offensive line which will be a question mark until we see who trots out on the field against Boise State in the opener.

For all intents and purposes, Coach Taggart seems happy overall with the attitude and effort from the players. He’s saying some things very similar to last year, but for some reason I feel more inclined to believe him opposed to not.

I still believe he should be cautiously optimistic with his approach and not build expectations too high like last year. Like I’ve said numerous times, it’s always better to under-promise and over-deliver than vice versa.

Coach Taggart spoke about the scrimmage on Saturday and spoke on the progress of the offense and defense.

Thoughts

It sounds like both the offense and defense have had their moments. There seems to be a huge emphasis on tempo just as it was last year. However, I’m more interested in the execution of the plays than the tempo.

I don’t care how fast the ball is snapped in between plays, if the play isn’t executed properly it’s not going to produce the results needed to be successful.

The good news is the players seem to have more confidence in themselves. Baveon Johnson’s interview the other day gave me a lot of hope. He’s clearly taking ownership of that unit and seems to have progressed a good bit since last year.

We are seeing players win reps in Nole Drills that were getting whipped last year. There’s no question the key to FSU football’s success in 2019 will be the offensive line.

As of now, it looks like some of those players might be turning the corner just a bit.
