FSU football should have an excellent secondary in 2018 with junior cornerback Levonta Taylor leading the charge.

FSU football is looking to get back to its winning ways and establishing an identity in all phases of the game.

Once known for it’s attacking defense and physicality, the Noles have been called soft in recent years despite sending multiple players to the NFL.

One player that garnering attention going into his junior year is former five-star recruiting Levonta Taylor.

He emerged as arguably one of the best cornerbacks in the ACC in 2017 despite playing on a defense that finished No. 33 according to S&P advanced metrics.

However, his play hasn’t gone unnoticed as he received mad props from a NFL Draft analyst late Saturday night.

Taylor came in at No. 34 on ESPN’s top 50 players earlier this week and led all power five cornerbacks with an average of 30.6 snaps in coverage per reception allowed.

Thoughts

The biggest knock on Taylor has been his height measuring in 5’10”. His freshman season saw him in good position against receivers, but some of the larger receivers would still make a play from time to time.

However, Taylor performed better in 2017 and often saw teams throw the other direction. For instance, Miami choose to target former five-star Tarvarus McFadden on the pivotal play that gave them their first win over FSU in eight seasons.

He can be a lock down corner and the last NFL Draft provided optimism that he could be drafted high. Denzel Ward was selected with the No. 4 pick overall and Jaire Alexander was selected No. 18 overall.

Both are listed under six feet tall which bodes well for Taylor should he continue his high level of play in 2018.
