FSU football already plays one of the toughest schedules in the nation. Would scheduling Oregon be worth it?

The Rose Bowl lost FSU football suffered against the Oregon Ducks in the 2014 season still stings to this day.

Not because Oregon won the game, but more so because the Noles beat themselves in that game with dumb turnovers.

As a FSU fan would you want another shot at the Ducks? A reporter that covers Oregon athletics suggested the two teams play one another now that Willie Taggart left to come to FSU.

Check out his reasoning in the video below:

Thoughts

Mr. Wrighster is simply trying to get a reaction from FSU fans here. He knows as does everyone else FSU football got its reputation by traveling to play big time programs on the road and winning a large share of those games.

This is fantasy stuff that’s never going to happen and secondly, if it did happen it would be years down the road because of the way scheduling works.

But let’s entertain the thought for a second. Would Oregon be any good at the time? They have been largely mediocre since the Chip Kelly era and after the players he recruited left the program.

Would a win over a mediocre Ducks team be worth the cost of traveling from Tallahassee to Eugene, Oregon.

FSU must make cost-effective decisions with its scheduling due to not having the same size donor programs as other big time universities.

We definitely don’t want to become Miami and have to travel to places like Arkansas State and Appalachian State.

The other factor is schedule difficulty. The Noles routinely play one of the toughest schedules in the country. Even if the ducks were mediocre, it’s still another Power 5 team on the schedule that ultimately does the Noles no favors.

FSU already has to play the likes of Clemson, Miami, Florida, Louisville and NC State ever since season.

Oregon gets the benefit of playing in that weaksauce conference of theirs where a loss to FSU doesn’t hurt them as bad.

I’d definitely be open to playing Oregon again, but a home and home makes little sense in the real world. Let’s line’em up in a season opener on a neutral field and see what’s up though.
