FSU football has always had one of the best looks in college football – but it seems you might see more than just garnet and gold in the Taggart era.

For the last four decades, there have been very few uniform combinations in college football that are more recognizable or honored than the one rocked by FSU football: the spear on a gold helmet with a granny jersey and gold pants (or white jersey on the road) has constantly been rated as one of the tops in the country.

Of course, in the current state of the sport, tradition sometimes isn’t always popular and there has been a growing chorus in the Florida State camp to switch things up – even just wearing garnet and garnet (a look started in the early 90s and worn at times over the next decade) as well as the occasional black jersey and whatever else Nike comes up with.

While there have been some combos – all garnet, all white, all black, those God-awful alternate uniforms for the 2009 Maryland game or the slightly better ones from the 2015 Chattanooga game -that broke from the norm, former head coach Jimbo Fisher was not quick to break with tradition.

It appears, according to some players, there will be some change under the Willie Taggart administration. Shortly after he was hired last week, Taggart spoke with several players on the subject and – according to the Orlando Sentinel – seems open to the idea of switching things up to motivate the team.

"“[Taggart] said, ‘Whatever you need to do to win,’” defensive back Levonta Taylor said with a smile.Added running back Jacques Patrick: “Coach said if uniforms are going to help us go out there and put points on the board, we’re going to wear them. Whatever helps win. … That’s what we are excited to use this upcoming year. It’ll be nice.”"

Taylor later tweeted out some art work with possible combinations you could be seeing in the future:

As an old school FSU person who grew up with the classic look and saw some slight changes later on, I’ll admit that I am partial to seeing the garnet on gold at home or when FSU football is the designated home team because there is no better look in all of college football.

That being said, even I will admit that the all garnet with the garnet helmet is a pretty sick look along with the white on garnet pants with either the gold or garnet helmet. Honestly, I can do without the all white or all black uniforms since I think you should wear what your school colors are. But, like Taggart told the players, whatever helps.
