Cheering for a CFB conference is apparently a thing and I don’t get it. I’ve always cheered for FSU football, not the ACC.

My personal opinion on this matter has been that cheering for a CFB conference is make no sense. I have never understood the reasoning and just simply don’t get why fans do it. Whether its FSU football fans, fans of other ACC teams, or those obnoxious Alabama coattail riding ‘SEC fans.’

Although I disagree with cheering for a conference there is one time a year I find myself pulling for fellow ACC teams. That’s in bowl season.

That’s the only time of the year I will do it and even then I’m not fond of it.

This past week coach Jimbo Fisher made a statement about his conference saying, “I think we’ve established ourselves as the premier conference in college football.” Like I said, the SEC is no longer the top CFB conference in the country. At best they are third best out of all the power five conferences.

Now when it comes to players and coaches puffing their chests out for their conference I have no issue there.

With the new CFB playoff format you want the committee to look at your conference as the strongest in the country.

So I am totally fine with programs trying to sell that to the committee and media outlets.

Scenario

However, when it comes to fans doing it, I don’t see it that way. For example, A Clemson fan cheering for FSU against Alabama in the season opener because they want to see the ACC beat the SEC.

If FSU football wins who does that benefit the most? Florida State.

By the end of the season that may actually hurt Clemons chances of making the playoffs depending on how the season was to play out.

The only thing a FSU win would do is strengthen Clemson’s strength of schedule.

I am a die-hard fan of the Florida State Seminoles and I cheer solely for their success. Although, cheering for a conference doesn’t make you any less of a fan of your team.
