FSU Basketball Recap: Noles Dominate Miami to End Recent Road Slump

The FSU basketball team got back in the win column, after a huge road performance against the rival Miami Hurricanes.

What a difference a few days can make. After two poor showings last week, FSU basketball bounced back in a big way against a good Miami Hurricanes team tonight. Though the Seminoles entered the halftime break trailing, they dominated their rivals in the second half to the tune of a 45-23 period. The final score read 75-57, Florida State. (Oh, just their ninth top-50 BPI win of the season.)

The Seminoles improved to 19-4, 7-3 in ACC play. That puts them one game behind North Carolina for best record in the conference.

For all the people who thought the sky was falling last week, maybe those emotions were a little premature. This team is still really freaking good.

Must be mentioned that in Miami’s last home game, they ran the Carolina Tar Heels out of the gym. So this was by no means a pushover opponent for Florida State.

Let’s get to the hardware and the highlights.

Player of the Game

It’s getting old, honestly. Once again, Jonathan Isaac was the best player on the floor for the Seminoles. The freshman had yet another stat sheet-stuffing performance: 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and a block. The 17 points were scored on just seven shot attempts, by the way. He is just ridiculously efficient for a freshman.

He’s played so well of late, he might be sneak his way into the top five of the 2017 of the draft. The latest Draft Express mock draft has him going sixth. Enjoy him while you can, you guys!

Ryan Reid Unsung Hero Award

Michael Ojo makes his return to the Ryan Reid Unsung Hero Award Section. Ojo had a quiet stat-line, but did a good job on defense (three steals), and played 18 impactful minutes. He also had a block, made all three of his free-throws and his lone field goal attempt. Ojo finished with a modest five points and two rebounds, but he was vitally important to the win.

Good job, Ojo. Nice to have you back in this section.

Also credit Terrance Mann for showing up after back-to-back games without a field goal. Mann 11 points on six shot attempts, to go with three rebounds and two assists. That’s a lot more like it. FSU will struggle to win games in which Mann doesn’t put his imprint. So it was good to see him back to his glue guy extraordinaire ways.

The Seminoles return home to face a pretty bad Clemson Tigers team on Sunday, at 12:30 PM. Let’s see if we can get another winning streak going. Tonight was a great start though.
