FSU football overcame poor start and a 21-3 deficit to defeat Ole Miss 45-34 in Orlando, Florida.

It was a game of two halves. The game didn’t start the way FSU football wanted, but they settled down to get the win. The defense gave up a touchdown in less than two minutes to open up the game.

The Ole Miss defense dared Deondre Francois to beat them with his arm as they stacked the box against Dalvin Cook. The offensive line got called for multiple penalties.

However, FSU football actually out-gained Ole Miss 106-95 yards with Ole Miss leading 7-3 after one-quarter.

The second quarter saw the Ole Miss offense explode for 21 points in the second quarter. FSU football got a timely touchdown with less than a minute left in the second quarter to trail at halftime 28-13.

They had 11 penalties in the FIRST half, and allowed Ole Miss to converted five of six third downs in the first half.

FSU football came out on fire in the second half. They got a field goal on their first possession. The defense forced a turnover and turned it into seven more points to cut the lead to 28-23 with 11:29 remaining in the third quarter.

DeMarcus Walker forced a turnover on a sack. The ‘Noles converted that into a touchdown to take the lead 29-28.

Quick Thoughts

Deondre Francois is no Jameis Winston

We know the hype on Francois was crazy, but we cautioned that he was a redshirt freshman with no college starts. Ole Miss put a lot of pressure on Francois early on, but he was relatively calm under pressure despite his offensive line getting worked all night. He didn’t turn the ball over either. He’s going to be a player no doubt though before his time at FSU is over.

The offensive line played like crap and was manhandled much of the game

Dalvin Cook had no lanes to run early on. The pocket consistently collapsed as Ole Miss blitzed early and often as they wanted to force Francois to beat them with his arm. That’s just what he did throwing for well over 400 yards.

Penalties, Penalties, Penalties

FSU football had 11 penalties for 98 yards in the FIRST HALF. They had They definitely need to get that cleaned up.

The FSU Secondary had a ton of blown coverages

This secondary is talented, but looked confused way too much. The uptempo used by Ole Miss was a problem too. FSU football plays three other teams that like to do this too.

The kickers look good

It looks like FSU has a punter and a kicker this season. Logan Tyler and Ricky Aguayo both performed well. Aguayo made six field goals and Tyler averaged over 40 yards per punt.
