ICYMI: FSU Football has the best recruiting class in the ACC once again

FSU Football was in a stagnant state in December 2009 when Jimbo Fisher took over for Bobby Bowden. The recruiting class was out of the top 25 at the time and National Signing Day was mere weeks away. FSU played in the Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day 2010 beating West Virginia 33-21. A win that assured FSU would continue its run of winning seasons by finishing 7-6. Fisher got to work and was able to close with the seventh best class in the country, a class with many players that played an integral part in helping FSU win its third national championship in 2013. It was a class that was foreshadowing of things to for FSU Football.

The classes broke down like this:

-2010‘s FSU Football class included 3 five stars and 6 four stars. The class featured future NFL players like LaMarcus Joyner, Christian Jones, Telvin Smith, Bjoern Werner, Mike Harris and Terrance Brooks.

-Jimbo Fisher signed 4 five stars in 2011 and 11 four stars. The class featured future NFL players like Karlos Williams, Rashad Green, Kelvin Benjamin, Devonta Freeman, Tim Jernigan, James Wilder Jr and Nick O’Leary,

-In 2012 Fisher managed to once again get 5 five stars and 9 four stars to sign with FSU. The class featured future NFL players like Jameis Winston, Mario Edwards, Eddie Goldman, PJ Williams, Ronald Darby and Melanik Watson.

-2013 saw FSU land 2 five stars and 8 four stars. The class featured future NFL players like Jalen Ramsey, and standout players Kermit Whitfield. Matthew Thomas was the other five-star recruit besides Ramsey.

-In 2014 Jimbo Fisher had 2 five stars and 14 four stars commit. The class standouts were Dalvin Cook, Ermon Lane, Travis Rudolph and Chad Mavety.

-Last year in 2015 Jimbo Fisher signed 4 five stars and 10 four stars. The class standouts were five stars Derwin James, Josh Sweat, Tarvarus McFadden, and George Campbell. James and Sweat were big contributors as freshmen this past year.

-This year? FSU continued to sign high quality talent with 1 five-star and 17 four stars in 2016. The class standout is Levonta Taylor who will see playing time as a freshman, and likely quarterback of the future in Malik Henry.

Next: Which freshmen will see playing time in 2016?

Jimbo Fisher has signed a total of 174 recruits since 2010, and 55.1 percent of those recruits have been rated four star or better. Fisher has won a national championship (2013), three ACC titles (2012, 2013, 2014) and an overall record of 68-14 (82.9 percent). When hearing pundits bring up the best coaches in college football, you often hear names like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh.

It’s time for Jimbo Fisher to get the same respect for what he has done for FSU Football.
