The ‘Noles added a surprise commitment Thursday, as 4-star ATH Kai Locksley tweeted his commitment. He was the first of two QBs to commit to FSU Thursday. This is a very good get for the ‘Noles, as Locksley has the potential to play either QB or wide receiver.
After having a chance to watch Locksley’s film, I think he has the ability to play both QB and wide receiver. He’s very quick in his decision making. He doesn’t wait around for the big play. He goes through his reads, and if the pass isn’t there, he’s tucking the ball and scrambling on the ground. He doesn’t display elite arm strength, but he displays excellent touch on short and intermediate throws. He could be a very good dual-threat running back under Jimbo Fisher’s tutelage. His style of play is reminiscent of EJ Manuel coming out of high school.
Being blessed with size (6’3, 188 lbs) and speed, Locksley could also be a perfect candidate for a position switch to receiver. He displays excellent breakaway speed. And with the natural way that he runs with the football, he could really make this switch a possibility. It should be noted that Locksley told Noles.247 that he was taken as “strictly a QB.”
Locksley chose the ‘Noles over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Texas, Virginia Tech, and Maryland. Being one of three QB commits for the ‘Noles, it will be very interesting to see if Locksley waivers from his commitment.
