4-star QB Deondre Francois, of Orlando, announced his commitment to Florida State over the Auburn Tigers Thursday. He becomes the 18th commitment for the 2015 class, being the third QB to commit. Francois may have the highest ceiling of the QB commits however.
Considered one of the better pro-style passers in the country, the first thing that jumps out about Francois is that he has a cannon for an arm. He has the ability to drop deep throws into a tight window with ease. He’s mechanically exceptional, which is another big plus for the QB prospect. He doesn’t hold the ball low, like a lot of high school QBs do.
While having a great arm can be a good thing, it also causes issues for Francois when it comes to putting touch on his throws. Given his offer list, it’s fair to say coaches think they can teach him how to correct those issues.
Another quality that Francois brings to the table is the ability to tuck the ball and scramble. No, he isn’t Mike Vick when running with the football, but he has enough speed and quickness that he can make plays with his feet.
Francois transferred to IMG Academy and will be coached by former Seminole great Chris Weinke for his senior season. This move could be very beneficial for Francois. It will allow him to receive a ton of one-on-one coaching and allow Weinke to work with Francois on his short and intermediate throws.
Francois selected FSU over offers from Auburn, UF, Clemson, Miami, OSU, Oregon, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. With FSU having three QB commits, it will be interesting to see how the QB recruiting unfolds whenever signing day is over. ChopChat will be sure to keep you posted on any developments until then.
