The last pass Florida State receiver Kelvin Benjamin caught in game action was delivered by Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston and clinched the Seminoles’ third national championship, as the ‘Noles defeated the Auburn Tigers. The next one he’ll catch will come off the arm of another Heisman winner– this one from Auburn.
That’s because Benjamin (6-5, 240) was recently drafted with the 28th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, quarterbacked by Cam Newton. A physical specimen who is still coming into his own due to starting football in high school, Benjamin had a break-out year for FSU last season. He caught 54 passes for 1,011 yards and 15 touchdowns while serving as an important cog for the highest scoring team in college football history.
Benjamin could see immediate playing time, as the Panthers are in dire need of receiver depth after losing Steve Smith to the Baltimore Ravens. He joins Graham Gano as another Seminole on the Carolina roster.
