Tonight the fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles (30-9) begin their 8-game home stand with a 2-game series vs. the Stetson Hatters (17-24) at 6 pm. The ‘Noles will finish the series vs. the Hatters in Deland, FL on May 6th.
FSU looks to build on last week, when they posted a 3-1 record, including a series win vs. Wake Forest in an ACC Atlantic 1-2 battle. The Seminoles maintained their 3.5 game lead over Clemson for 1st place in the ACC Atlantic, and Wake Forest fell to 3rd place. Florida State has a clear path to the ACC tournament, as long as they close the season strong, and these next two games can help them do just that.
Billy Strode (0-1 5.66 ERA) gets the start tonight vs. the Hatters. Strode pitched a solid 6-innings last Tuesday vs. the Jacksonville Dolphins. That was the first time he posted 6-innings since March 20th, 2013 vs. none other than the Stetson Hatters. The ‘Noles will need Strode to have a similar outing Tuesday night against a hot Stetson ball club that just swept the #1 team in its conference, Lipscomb.
It is worth noting that Seminoles’ head coach Mike Martin and the Hatters’ manager, Pete Dunn, both rank in the top-8 in most career wins in NCAA baseball history (Martin is 2nd with 1800, and Dunn is 8th with 1245). Florida State will finish up this series Wednesday night and prepare for a huge weekend series vs. ACC foe and top-ranked Virginia.
