Following a week in which the Seminoles went 1-3, including an 8-0 loss at home to the bitter-rival Florida Gators and a series loss to ACC-foe Georgia Tech in Atlanta, the ‘Noles (27-8) look to bounce back against Jacksonville (12-23) inside Dick Howser Stadium Tuesday night at 6 pm on ESPN3.
Florida State and Jacksonville have faced off once before this year resulting in a 12-6 FSU win in front of a sold-out crowd in Jacksonville. In that game, the Dolphins came out swinging, putting up runs early and often, and applying pressure to Mike Bell and the Seminoles’ bullpen. The ‘Noles come into this game hoping Billy Strode can turn that around by limiting JU’s offensive production. FSU needed late run support to seal the win in Jacksonville.
DJ Stewart comes into this game with what seems to be a lingering ankle injury that he suffered two weeks ago vs. Notre Dame. After sitting out last week’s game against UF, serving as DH in game one vs Georgia Tech, and playing LF in the final two games, he seems to be progressing. As the Seminoles look to get their bats going again tonight vs. Jacksonville starter Zach Gordon, Stewart’s ankle is something to keep an eye on.
The ‘Noles have won eight straight against the Dolphins and look to keep that hot streak going tonight. As Florida State heads down the stretch of the regular season, every game is vital to their postseason chances.
