As ChopChat predicted earlier in the day, the FSU men’s basketball team barely missed the NCAA Tournament but still secured a top seed in the NIT. The Seminoles are one of the four top seeds in the consolation tourney, and will host eighth-seeded Florida Gulf Coast University in Tallahassee on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
The Eagles finished with a 22-12 record this season and went 14-4 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. If the ‘Noles win, they’ll host the winner of the Georgetown/West Virginia tilt. Florida State could host three games before the NIT Final Four, which occurs at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
This is FSU’s second straight season in the NIT. Last year they garnered a 4 seed and hosted an opening-round game, losing to Louisiana Tech. Tech is on the other side of the Seminoles’ bracket as the 3 seed, and will play Iona. The 2 seed is Georgia, which opens up against Vermont. The other top seeds are SMU, St. John’s, and Minnesota.
