Florida State baseball remained perfect on Friday night, defeating the Georgia Bulldogs 8-3 at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee. Neither team did much offensively until a 1-1 tie was broken by a six-run Seminole fourth inning that proved to be the difference. The ‘Noles scored the runs on just two hits, thanks largely to erratic UGA pitching.
Georgia scratched a little closer in the sixth on a two-run bomb by Jess Posey, the younger brother of former FSU players Jack and Buster Posey. Posey’s big day at the plate included three hits and two RBIs. The Bulldogs actually outhit the fifth-ranked Seminoles 9-8, but ‘Noles pitching scattered them throughout the contest.
Luke Weaver recorded the win for Florida State, going 5+ innings before giving way to Billy Strode and Gage Smith finished things up for FSU. Jameis Winston was set to close for the Seminoles, but when the ‘Noles pushed across an insurance run in the eighth, Manager Mike Martin elected to save Winston and let Smith wrap it up.
These teams match up again Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
