National Signing Day is like Christmas morning for college football fans. And that makes this the holiday season, since it’s just around the corner. Next Wednesday, February 5th, a bunch of high school seniors will make their official written commitments to the universities of their choice. And the National Champion Florida State Seminoles are sure to bolster yet another killer class. As far as class rankings go, ESPN currently has FSU at #3, while 247Sports (CBS) and Rivals each slot the ‘Noles at #5.
But this ranking is almost certain to improve. One reason is pictured above. Ermon Lane, a former Florida commit and arguably the nation’s top receiver (he tops the WR rankings in the FanSided 150), is projected to sign with FSU. If he does so, he’ll join ‘Nole commit Travis Rudolph, who is also considered by many (including Rivals) to be the top wideout in the land.
But it gets better. Malachi Dupre, whom — cover your ears, Gators — ESPN lists as the country’s top receiver, also visited Tallahassee last weekend, and proclaimed in a tweet that his FSU visit was “already the best one.” This would be more of a stretch, as LSU is deemed the strong favorite to land Dupre, but it’s far from unfathomable, and their lead is perceived to have dwindled of late.
Florida State scored more points last season than any team in college football history. Now consider the future. Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston returns, seasoned, as do top receiver Rashad Greene and one of the nation’s top tight ends, Nick O’Leary. Add on what could wind up being the best WR recruiting class of all time, and it’s approaching scary.
