Prognostication: Lamarcus Joyner is making the move from safety to cornerback for the 2013 season. Not only should this increase his NFL Draft stock, but should put the Florida State Seminoles in a position where the back-end of their defense is very versatile. Joyner should also excel in his new position. Being a little undersized for a safety, possessing good coverage technique, while still being able to stop the run is a sure fire way for Joyner to make a big splash nationally.
Strengths: With the move to cornerback, it’s clear that Lamarcus Joyner is a versatile player. He also possesses tremendous speed. The kind of which he not only uses to cover receivers, but get in the backfield to stop the run. Joyner happens to be an excellent kick returner as well. Last season saw him average over 30 yards per return. Think about that for a second. Lamarcus Joyner gave Florida State a 30 yard head start every time he touched the football on special teams.
Weaknesses: A little small. It might provide some coverage issues, although, Joyner’s athleticism should keep him battling for position in most scenarios. The switch back to cornerback may also take a little time for Joyner to get used to. As far as natural talent goes, however, he is a quality specimen.
Fairly random, but awesome, Lamarcus Joyner factoid: Joyner has a long history of being awesome on the defensive side of the ball and being all types of versatile. As a sophomore in high school, playing the linebacker position, he had over 100 tackles.
