Name: Chris Casher
Eligibility: (RS) Freshman
Weight: 257 lbs
Position: Defensive end
Twitter Handle: @casherfsu21
2012 Season Stats: 1 total tackle (Medical Redshirt after first two games)
Prognostication: Chris Casher is coming off of a medical redshirt during his first year with the program. The year before, well, he also missed his entire senior season in high school. Despite all of the injury riddling going on Casher is expected to be the first backup at the defensive end position. For good reason as well. Casher — while even missing his entire senior year — was still projected as one of the best defensive end prospects coming out of high school. If he can stay healthy expect Casher to be a huge part of the defense.
Strengths: A lot of Casher’s strengths hinge on whether or not his body is healthy. Big, strong, quick off the block and is said to be incredibly skilled at getting to the quarterback. It doesn’t hurt that his natural abilities will more than make up missing most of last season.
Weaknesses: It needs to be said even if it’s a misconception; Chris Casher has barely played competitive football the last few seasons because of injury and a transfer in high school. Things like rust, inexperience at the college level and injury concerns are all things the Florida State coaching staff must keep an eye on. Again, Casher is humorously talented, although, he has been on the field a very limited amount of time over the years — so it’s hard for it to be showcased.
Fairly random, but awesome, Chris Casher factoid: Casher has been recorded running a 4.63 in the forty, a 4.29 in the 20-yard shuttle and having a 29.9 vertical jump.
