Name: Jalen Ramsey
Weight: 195 lbs
Position: Defensive Back
Twitter Handle: N/A
2012 Season Stats: Only a freshman. No stats.
Prognostication: Jalen Ramsey is another player with an interesting back story. Originally committed to USC, Ramsey later decided to go to Florida State rather than watching Lane Kiffin wallow around and be all kinds of weird. Ramsey happened to be one of the top athletes in the nation and projected as high as a top-5 cornerback in the nation. He is going to be a really good player for the Noles, although, I am not exactly sure how much playing time he gets this season.
Strengths: A really good tackling defensive back. While it seems like he is going to end up playing CB, Jalen Ramsey and his skill set feel like he would have the ability to play safety at the collegiate level as well. Good technique to go along with a good vertical (40.9 inches) will make it hard for opposing players to get open. Another young FSU player with a very high ceiling.
Weaknesses: Jalen Ramsey is not as fast as most other highly sought after athletes. ESPN has him clocked running the forty in 4.54 seconds. The lack of top-end speed, however, should be offset by his other abilities. Inexperience — like all true freshman — is obviously something that can be rectified with some time in the program.
Fairly random, but awesome, Jalen Ramsey factoid: Ramsey’s athletic exploits are pretty well-known. In high school not only did he play great defense, but he excelled in offense. The 2012 season saw Ramsey catch 31 balls for over 660 yards, which resulted in 6 touchdowns. Oh yeah, he also ran the ball 5 times for 85 yards. Jalen Ramsey will also run track for the Seminoles.
