2012 Season Stats: N/A (hasn’t played a snap for FSU, yet)
Prognostication: John Franklin is unlikely to see many snaps under center this season. With a slew of other quarterbacks ahead of him, it would be even more surprising if he didn’t end up getting redshirted. He can play multiple positions, however, so if needed to be thrown at another position Franklin does possess that ability. Either way, though, his chances of seeing any real time on the field this season are pretty slim.
Strengths: Franklin is an athletic, duel-threat quarterback. Some recruiting websites have him listed as running the forty as fast as 4.41 seconds. He was also a track and field athlete in high school. He does have the ability to play other positions. Considering the youth and talent at the quarterback position going forward, not a bad skill to possess to get on the field.
Weaknesses: John Franklin was only a three star recruit coming out of high school. That’s not really a weakness going into college, although, I don’t know a ton about his game or whatever position he is actually going to end up playing. I’m not a huge fan (as I say with nearly every freshman) of throwing guys under the bus until I at least have some college tape on him.
Fairly random, but awesome, John Franklin factoid: Franklin isn’t limited to being a terrific athlete. Apparently, he also had offers to go play for Navy and Air Force — before ultimately deciding that being a member of Florida State was a better option.
