Name: Karlos Williams
Weight: 230 lbs
Position: Defensive Back
Twitter Handle: @KJW_SR
2012 Season Stats: 32 total tackles, 1 INT, 2 pass deflections
Prognostication: Karlos Williams is currently penciled in as the starting strong safety. There is good reason for that too as he happens to be a versatile, dangerous and talented player. In fact, Williams actually played some linebacker last season and saw more snaps when Florida State tossed out a slew of “athletes” on the field for their 6-pack defensive formation. Karlos Williams is going to bring experience, an edge and the ability to play about every defensive position (sans the line) to the table.
Strengths: Versatility is Williams’ best attribute. If injuries were to happen, Williams could be the guy who ends up getting moved around to help out with depth at another position. He is big, strong and pretty fast. All of those things make Williams the likely starter at strong safety. His best character as a player, however, is his ability to crack people upside the head. Expect him to play a lot of snaps inside the box — even if he is listed as playing safety.
Weaknesses: Well, if we are going to praise his ability to stop the run and play inside the box, I suppose we should point out that he isn’t the greatest coverage defensive back in the history of mankind. That isn’t really a huge weakness, though, as Florida State will be relying on him to help out against the run and hit people (as legally as possible) when they try to make a catch across the middle of the field.
Fairly random, but awesome, Karlos Williams factoid: His brother, Vince Williams, is also a player for the Florida State Seminoles.
